Congratulations to Athena Hollins (pictured below), who was elected as the Minnesota State Representative for House District 66B! Athena won more than 78% of the vote. Athena also received an award at the Minnesota Lawyer Diversity & Inclusion Awards. Individuals were recognized for making a significant impact with respect to diversity and inclusion on the greater community or within their organizations.

Matt also recently started his own practice, Perkins Legal, where he does civil litigation and estate planning for a select number of clients in CO and CA. And finally, our class has a newly appointed judge in its midst! John Sandy (pictured below) was recently appointed as an Iowa District Court Judge in District 3A by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. District 3A includes 10 counties in Northwest Iowa. John will hear matters ranging from complex civil litigation, probate, family law disputes and felony criminal cases.

restrictions. Amy is a partner in the employment and consumer fraud practice groups at Halunen Law (Minneapolis). Congrats to co-class notes editor Amanda Crain ! Amanda and her husband Scott welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Harper, to their family (pictured below) in December 2020.

David Carrier is now a partner at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP (Minneapolis). Lewis Bisbois is consistently ranked well inside the AmLaw 100. David’s practice focuses on representing national and international businesses in commercial, class action and trade secret disputes across the United States. Charles Crain now practices at Anderson, Wilmarth, Van Der Maaten, Belay, Fretheim, Gipp, Evelsizer Olson, Lynch & Zahasky (Decorah, IA). His general practice includes, but is not limited to, civil litigation and appeals, family law, Social Security law and real estate transactions. Charles also serves as an Assistant Winneshiek County Attorney. Salena Koster joined the leadership staff of the Minnesota Senate DFL Caucus as the new legislative support supervisor,

Susan Grassel is the head of the legal department at Calabrio, focusing on strategic initiatives, business operations, M&A, contracts and negotiations, data privacy, and employment matters. Recently, Susan led the legal function during the sale of Calabrio from the private equity firm KKR & Company to Thoma Bravo, where Calabrio officially reached “unicorn” status! Susan sent a photo of her and fellow 2011 classmates Jennifer Burt and Emily Menchaca , along with Meredith Werderitch (pictured below), who we all remember from her 1L year at UST. They masked up and went for a walk in Shakopee!

Here’s what you’ve been up to since our last publication: A big hooray for Amy Boyle , who led the trial team that won $200,000 in damages against Morrie’s 394 Hyundai for retaliation against a former employee. The jury found two kinds of retaliation: for reporting gender discrimination in violation of the Minnesota Human Rights Act and for using personal sick leave benefits to care for a child in violation of the Minnesota
