It will also provide learning, meeting and performance spaces for local K-12 schools and community organizations. Lisa Anderson of the Schoeneckers Foundation is the daughter of the late Barbara and Guy Schoenecker. Her father was the founder of BI Worldwide and graduated from St. Thomas in 1949 with a philosophy and political science degree. Anderson, who followed in her dad‘s footsteps to serve on the St. Thomas Board of Trustees, said, “The integration of the arts and STEM education will be a game-changer by infusing a new level of creativity and a deep sense of the aesthetic in all that we do.“ Fundraising continues for the Schoenecker Center, which will be the university‘s first new academic building since McNeely Hall in 2006. Several signature naming opportunities are available throughout the building. n

He also received a St. Thomas Aquinas Medallion from the School of Law in 2009, the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1993 and the John F. Cade Award for entrepreneurship achievement in 1991. “Guy was one of the most conscientious people I have known in my life,“ said Father Dennis Dease, who was president of St. Thomas from 1991-2013. “He got his start here at St. Thomas and he got his inspiration here, and he wanted to make a St. Thomas education possible for future generations.“ In fact, five of his seven children received St. Thomas degrees. His legacy of philanthropic impact and wise counsel continues at St. Thomas through his son Larry, president of the Schoeneckers Foundation, and daughter Lisa Anderson, a member of the St. Thomas Board of Trustees.
